Thank you for taking the time to investigate contributing to the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and specifically Marathon Divison and T/S Cape Cod Canal. Marathon Division has been designated a "Section 501(c)3 Charitable Organization" by the United States Internal Revenue Service and a "Not For Profit" organization by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. All donations made to Marathon Division are tax deductable to the full extent of the law.
Operating costs for a Sea Cadet unit have risen steadily over the past few years. The advent of computers has added to the financial burden. Paper forms and documents previously supplied by NSCC National Headquarters are now only available in electronic format. This transition into the electronic age has shifted more operating costs to the local level. Training costs have increased along with everything else and some families have found it difficult to send their cadets to mandatory two week summer training. Marathon Division is determined to assist all deserving cadets to the best of our ability so that no cadet will ever be left behind due to a lack of money. Marathon Division financially supports T/S Cape Cod Canal, the League Cadet unit operating in conjunction with the Division.
All of this is not possible without help from the outside. The Division is fortunate to receive some assistance from our sponsor - the Massachusetts Bay Council of the Navy League of the United States. The Navy League can not shoulder this burden alone as they support several units here in the state. It is the generosity of individuals such as yourself that has allowed Marathon to purchase uniforms, insignia and training equipment which go directly to the cadets. Every penny donated goes directly to benefit the cadets. None of the officers or adult staff receive any monetary compensation.
How will we invest your donation? A donation of $50 will pay one cadet's dues for a year. A donation of $150 will pay for a cadet to attend an advanced training on the east coast. A generous donation of $350 will provide the means to send a cadet to an advanced training on the west coast. Marathon Division will gladly accept a monetary contribution in any amount. Material donations such as compatible computer equipment are always welcome. If you are unsure of how you can help or what the unit needs, please feel free to visit with us to see how you can help the cadets.
